Tips for Organizing Computer Files Backup

One of the vulnerabilities of computers is data lost. If you think technology has been harmful to you in some way, wait till you lose an important data.

In most cases some situations are beyond us, computers are machine and can get spoil at anytime without a user's prior attention. Computer viruses can attack your data at unsuspected moment, forcing you to lose the work you have invested energy, time and resource.

Once, you are set to backup your computer, you can't compromise on the best method, approved tools which enhance faster and reliability, be it  using Apple, Android, Windows, PC, or Mobile. 
The following are my timely selected backup procedures and techniques for you.


Priority One - Email

Email service providers give you space to backup your files. Gmail for instance, gives you 15 GB storage which can serve a person data back up. The fastest way to backup using email is to send an email to yourself with attachments. You can also synchronize your mobile phone contacts with your email account. By this, you save every new contact directly to your email. In case of phone theft or damages, your contacts is safe. It is advisable to read and understand policies and terms of use from email service providers concerning your archive.




Priority Two - Cloud Service

Another online mechanism which comes up with even bigger storage space is the cloud. It keeps data accessible, in more secure ways. Example of free cloud Services are;

  • Google Drive: 15GB free.
  • Box: 10GB free.
  • OneDrive: 5GB free (1TB for students)
  • iCloud: 5GB free.
  • Dropbox: 2GB free, plus up to 16 GB extra.

Priority Three - CD drives and Flash


Another safe and affordable way of backing up computer files is using blank CD or DVD and Flash Drive. Desktops and most laptops come with DVD writer which can assist you to burn data. 

Modern Operating Systems make this option more easier, you do not need even external software. Once,  a blank disk is inserted in the drive, Your file explorer will detect and open a writable CD folder in This PC, for you to select and copy files to the new folder. The process is a self tutorial and will guide you through. 


Always remember that CD-R can store only 700 megabytes, a DVD will hold between 4.7 to 8 gigabytes of your data.  Backup process on CDs is slow.  Flash drives are another options, you can plug a hand pen drive or memory cards  into the USB port to back up your files.  Flash drives are into various sizes, they are also useful for transferring data from PC to another.

Priority Four - Time Machine (Mac)



If you have  Apple Mac you can backup with a  Time Machine. 

Priority Five - External Storage Devices

On affordability wise, back up your large files with this option. External hard drive is ROM enabled device which is connected to computers through the USB port. Seagate and LaCie are top brands that you go for. They have internal software which make usage very simple.
