The Blood of Jesus Christ

The shedding of the blood of Jesus Christ on the Cross was a factor in order for us to receive justification and get in fellowship with God. "... without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness. Heb 9:22 - NIV"

Man at rest beneath the cross || PEXELS.COM

1. Life is in the Blood

" For the life of a creature is in the blood, and I have given it to you to make atonement for yourselves on the altar; it is the blood that makes atonement for one's life.  Lev 17:11-12 - NIV"

The Bible attributes death to sin "for the wages of sin is death"  Jesus in shedding his life on the cross paid the debt and faced the penalty thereof for us. His blood contained life needed to raise back the dead spirit of the first Adam.

Sin had separated man from the creator, God never wanted that disconnection with man. He needed to restore that connection. The word "atonement"  means "at one" with God. By the blood of Christ we have received the right standing with God. The bond between the Creator and man is established, for us to understand we are no more enemies of God. We are now Children and our belief in the atonement, enables us to inherit the benefits in it.

2.The  Four Effects of Sin
The pitiful state of man after the fall resulted in a deficit in these critical areas;

The first effect was the separation, God is holy, the Bible teaches us, He detects uncleanliness and hates sin. The just God by nature cannot share fellowship with man when he endures in sin. His Spirit can no longer abide with a dead Spirit of man.

"But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear. Isa 59:2 - NIV"
Secondly, the Holy Scripture continues to prove that sin brings guilt. A Wikipedia article on guilt says "it is a cognitive or an emotional experience that occurs when a person believes or realizes—accurately or not—that they have compromised their own standards of conduct or have violated a universal moral standard and bear significant responsibility for that violation.  - Wikipedia" Man is a spirit, he possesses a soul and lives in body. When we were in sin, our spirit were separated from God, in our mind we battle the recognition of our fallen standards, we couldn't run away from our responsibility therein.

"For my iniquities have gone over my head; Like a heavy burden they are too heavy for me.  5 My wounds are foul and festering Ps 38:4-5 - NKJV"

Furthermore, sin legitimizes the accusations of Satan. Sin is sourced from Satan, it is his greatest weapon against man. He uses the sinful states of man to accuse him before his creator.

"Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say: "Now have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Christ. For the accuser of our brothers, who accuses them before our God day and night, has been hurled down.  Rev 12:10- NIV"
The fourth effect is the demand for death penalty. "For every living soul belongs to me, the father as well as the son — both alike belong to me. The soul who sins is the one who will die. Ezek 18:4 - NIV" God owns his word. There is no lie in Him. He told Adam that death is the penalty, the price is always paid when sin enters.

The goodnews is this, the covenant established in the atonement has the cure to the four effects highlighted above. Your belief in the gospel and being identified by the atonement is enough.

3. The Blood Pleases God

The blood of Christ is sufficient to God's law, for it's required that every breaking of the law is a sin and consequences are inevitable. The blood protect us from the penalties of breaking the law. Once, you can claim your redemption of the law, them you are to be intentional that God is thoroughly   satisfied and hold against you no demand of penalty for your sin.

The efficacy of this revelation was initiated during the institution of the passover in Exodus 12 vrs 13. " Now the blood shall be a sign for you on the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you; and the plague shall not be on you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt. NKJV" Once, God is satisfied in this provision, we benefit as recorded in these two scriptures;

We have recieved redemption
7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace Eph 1:7-8 - NIV
We are now restored for fellowship
But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.  9 Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God's wrath through him Rom 5:8-9 - NIV
4. The Blood is for Man

The blood has satisfied God; now it's to satisfy man in cleansing of our conscience of guilt. No enlightened believer should continue being enslaved in his thought with guilt from past experiences.
"14 How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God!  Heb 9:14 - NIV"
We benefit even more, we are sanctified to live in holiness before God. Man's walk of life in the imputed righteousness of Christ is holiness. For by ourselves, we couldn't have pleased God by the righteousness of the law (Phil 3:9). The scripture says, God is Holy, we must also be holy. Yet, the first steps of holy living was made on the cross. The blood indeed has benefited us.

"Therefore Jesus also, that He might sanctify the people with His own blood, suffered outside the gate. 13 Therefore let us go forth to Him, outside the camp, bearing His reproach. Heb 13:12-13 - NKJV"
We cannot continue depending on others (mediators) before approaching God. Many times I encounters Christians who still believe they need serious men of God to stand in the gap for their connectivity with God. This has contributed to the rise of false prophets who claim to provide special directions at hefty charges. The blood was for man's benefits. It brought us into fellowship with God.

"and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross.  21 And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled 22 in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight —Col 1:20-22 - NKJV "
 If there is a reconciliation, then there is given, an access to the presence. The believer is going to be intentional in the mind. We are going to get in touch with the word of God concerning our position before God. The writer of the epistle of Hebrews explained this better;

"Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, 20 by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body, 21 and since we have a great priest over the house of God, 22 let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. Heb 10:19-22 - NIV"
I have heard many people saying, we cannot be perfect. Yes, some Christians still doubt if they can walk through this corrupt generation with perfect thought and right standing. I say, why not. The blood of Christ prepare the believer to perfection in the sight of God.

"because by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy. Heb 10:14- NIV"
5. The Blood is for the Devil

The blood has worked perfectly for God, man has also recorded abundantly, the promise in the covenant. Now, it is time to consider how the blood has rendered the devil, Satan, the accuser whose 18 names recorded in the New Testament are all pointing to the downfall of man. Of course, the blood was for Satan too. His strategic activity is to accuse the brethren before their creator (Rev. 12:10).

The first blow for the devil is, the blood puts God on the side of man against the devil. "....If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things? 33 Who shall bring a charge against God's elect? It is God who justifies. 34 Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us.  .Rom 8:31-35 - NKJV"

Furthermore, the speaking blood of Christ has dissolved  all the legal rights of Satan ownership of man. Redemption means "to buy back". Jesus through his blood has bought us back to God. we are therefore under new ownership. "In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: Col 1:14  KJV"

"Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood. Acts 20:28- KJV"
6. The Benefit therein the Blood

Hallelujah, have you ever doubted your salvation in anyway? the above revelation from the scripture should tell you the price paid by Christ is enough to walk in glory. In my conclusion part, permit me to share briefly, the three benefits obviously from the blood that this article seeks to highlight.

a. Purity of Heart

" But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. - 1 John 1:7-  NIV"

b. Eternal Life

53 Jesus said to them, "I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. 54 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. - John 6:53-55- NIV"
c. Approach to God

"But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near through the blood of Christ.  Eph 2:13 - NIV"
In conclusion, join me to confess this;

Having understood what the blood of Jesus means to God my father, to Satan my enemy. I commit myself to walk in the light of the word of God. Practice the truth of its revelations. And teach others the efficacy of the blood in this covenant. I am a child of God full of power, riches, wisdom, strength, honour, glory and blessing. Amen
