Redemption Accomplished
Main Story : Ruth 4:8-10
Then Boaz announced to the elders and all the people, "Today you are witnesses that I have bought from Naomi all the property of Elimelech, Kilion and Mahlon. - Ruth 4:9
The book of Ruth plays a major role in festivities of the Jews moreover, its significance in Christianity is greater than that. The passage recorded here, brings to our view the central theme of the gospel "redemption accomplished" through the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ in human body for the sinful man.
Boaz purchased the responsibility from his kinsman through the shoe-taking tradition, a simple but solemn token of the agreement which he had now assumed. He did this in front of all the inhabitants and elders of his city, they were to witness that he acknowledged all this responsibility, and was pledged to accomplish the redemption which was thus described and undertaken.
When Jesus said "it is finished", He wanted the world to know that God has assigned a kinsman redeemer for the world. He Jesus gladly has accepted that role, fulfilled the related responsibilities to redeem the sinful man from his creditors. He paid the price once, for all He shared His blood once, how shameful could it has been, that after Boaz has redeemed Ruth, she still serves Naomi instead of Boaz?. Man can't continue serving sin, such great price has Christ paid.
Our duty, is to let everyone know that the debt is paid, Satan has been slapped with the sandal, the burial is canceled. Hallelujah !
Prayer: Thank you Jesus for standing up on my behalf. Please equip me to stand up for you. Amen
