Biography of S. R. Asomani

The late S.R. Asomani was a citizen of Ghana born in Akyem Akroso  Eastern Region of Ghana. His parents were, Opanin Asiyaw of Asamankese and Madam Abena Nyarko of Akroso.

Rev. Asomani was well educated and worked with the S.C.O.A Company Limited as a stores keeper at Akwatia. He returned to Akroso and entered into farming. His uncles owned vast lands and employed many farmers, who worked on his farms. He married Martha Sekyiraah of Akim Akroso.

Their marriage was blessed with two children (a son and a daughter). Rev. James Gyimah converted Asomani into the Christian Faith and brought him up, training him to become a minister of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Asomani became the first ordained Apostle of the Apostolic Church, he was ordained before his mentor Rev. James Gyimah .

During the first general convention of the Apostolic Church of Gold Coast Rev. James McKeown adained him together with pioneers like J.A.C. Anaman of Abura Dunkwa, J. C. Quaye of Winniba and R. O. Hayford of Saltpond. The white missionary subsequently officiated Ansomani''s ordination as the first Apostle of Pentecostalism in Ghana.

Asomani was therefore sent to Saltpond and later served at Cape Coast between 1939 and 1941. Rev James McKeown was also an interpreter of James McKeown until R.O Hayford took over from him in 1942, when Pastor James mcKeown moved into  Cape Coast, as the Headquarters of the church. Rev. Asomani was transferred to Suhum. Apostle Asomani did not receive any salary during his stay in Cape Coast but out of members voluntary contributions he was supported. He ministered at Suhum another town in the Eastern Region of Ghana and from there, to Kumasi. Between 1951 and 1952, was assumed oversight duty over the Church at Akyem Oda. He was retired at 1952 at Oda.

It is believed that Apostle Asomani by virtue of the absence of Public Address in their days, used his voice extensively that at the close of his he had virtually lost his voice. He could hardly be heard. Rev S.R. Ansomani died of heart attack at the Agogo hospital, six months alter 1953 conflict in the church.
